May the wind take your troubles away

Dec. 28th, 2012 | 03:59 pm

Hello my LJ friends!!!

I haven't been around in ages, but logged in today and tried to do the 'Reader's Digest catch up' with all of your journals.  I haven't sent out holiday cards in a few years, but I want to tell you all that I appreciate you!  You are all important to me, whether I have been lucky enough to meet you in RL or if our relationship has been built entirely through words on a screen.

To those who have been blessed with happy circumstances this year, congratulations!  I hope the joy continues to flow.
To those going through painful and/or stressful times, I so hope things get better for you in the new year.  Know that you are in my thoughts.

Despite some bumps, I have to say I've had a pretty great year.  I'm employed, I have health insurance, my family is healthy, and my friends are amazing.  In this crazy world, I am truly blessed... and smart enough to realize it!

I hope you all have an amazing 2013!

No joy in Mudville

Jul. 9th, 2010 | 07:05 pm

Announcing you're leaving without the courtesy of informing the owner of the team you've played with for 7 years beforehand?  Classy, LeBron, classy.  Although, Dan Gilbert, you do yourself no favors with angry overreactions and pissing contests

I'm disappointed LeBron decided to leave Cleveland the join the Heat.  But I'm angry about how he went about things.  I was under the impression he had more integrity than that.

The best article I have found about the whole fiasco is here.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

Good night, and good luck.

a brief window of communication!

Jun. 21st, 2010 | 11:43 pm

our internet and home phone (which goes through the cable modem) have been down intermittently (i.e., more off than on) for the last week or two.  lately, they're out for hours at a time.  this wouldn't be so bad if i wasn't in the midst of a nightmare cell phone number porting experience with virgin mobile (no cell phone since friday!).  so when the internet/home phone go down, i am without means of communication.  it is crazy making, particularly when you are jobhunting and realize potential employers have absolutely no way of contacting you.  i was actually driving around today in search of payphones, in which i found none.  payphones, you are sorely missed.  say hello to the dinosaurs for me.

so if you need to reach me... you're pretty much screwed.  i'm working on this tin can/string contraption, but not real hopeful.

I get knocked down, but I get up again

Jun. 18th, 2010 | 04:20 pm

...and apparently, I also use Chumbawumba lyrics as subject lines. ;-)

Thanks so much for the kind words, kids.  Things are better today.  Home is still stressful, but I haven't been there much lately, which is helpful.

Good news for once - I got a call today for a JOB INTERVIEW!!!  Of course, it's 9:00AM Thursday morning downtown, which is the day I leave to go see holycitygirl , but hopefully it will go quickly and I'll have time to go home, change, and still make my 1:30 flight.  This is the first interview I've had in months, so please think good things!

Speaking of good news, did I mention I'm going to see holycitygirl ?  She promises me margaritas and bad karaoke and BYOB painting classes, but really I'm just excited to hang with my girl again. :-)

Have a great weekend! :-)

For those of you who like documentaries...

Jun. 13th, 2010 | 07:16 pm

Go watch 'More Than a Game'.  It's the story of the famed St. Vincent-St. Mary high school basketball team from Akron, Ohio who just happened to be blowing all out all of their competitors thanks to a group of players who are close friends.

And yes, one of those players happens to be LeBron James. :-)  But it's not just a movie about basketball!  It's about humble beginnings, overcoming challenges, building family, the dangers of ego, and working hard to achieve success.  There is some pretty phenomenal basketball footage though.

It's neat to see because I remember how crazy everyone around here got about this high school basketball team and was amazed that they sold out Gund Arena when the Cavaliers couldn't.  Of course, now LeBron plays for the Cavs and that's a different story... :-)

It was on MTV this weekend - check your listings or Netflix!

Even if you haven't met her in person, you've gotta love gottalovev .  I've been lucky enough to meet her in person, and she's warm and funny and has such a charming accent.  I hope your day was fabulous, babe, and I wish you nothing but the best for the year ahead! :-)

Natalee Holloway Suspect Joran Van Der Sloot Sought in Peru Murder

Man, I hope they're able to capture/convict that guy - he's obviously a sociopath who needs to be behind bars.
